Angela Thompson has been working in Bangladesh since 2016 on problems associated with riverbank erosion, flooding and river stabilization. Her Masters Thesis was about the stability of sand-filled geotextile bags, which are now widely used in Bangladesh as major elements for riverbank revetments. During the last five years she contributed to a comprehensive river stabilization plan for the Brahmaputra/Jamuna and Padma rivers in Bangladesh. She currently works on the preparation of a six-year large flood and riverbank erosion risk management project for the main Bangladeshi rivers, with total project cost exceding USD 450 million
