Sheila M. Arias-Roman serves as a Civil Engineer in the the Water Resources Engineering Branch, Hydraulic Design Section at US Army Corps of Engineers-Jacksonville District (USACE-SAJ). Prior to joining USACE-SAJ, Ms. Arias-Roman worked at the USACE Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), where she served as the ERDC Scour Technical Lead of the Bridge Safety Program under the Army Dams & Transportation Infrastructure Program (ADTIP) of the Installation Management of Command (IMCOM). She was responsible for overseeing the implementation and integration of the areas that define the structure stability of bridges in terms of the effects of river dynamics, geomorphology, stream flooding, scour, and other fluvial mechanisms. She is also a National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) certified bridge inspector with specialized experience in developing recommended policy, technical guidance, methods and execution of activities supporting infrastructure sustainability and vulnerability assessments. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering/Water Resources from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez. She started her PhD at Texas A&M, College Station Texas.
