University of Colorado Boulder
Maddy Pernat is a third-year PhD student in the Hydrology, Water Resources, and Environmental Fluid Mechanics program at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research focuses on decision-making under deep uncertainty in large water resource systems, with a particular interest in using unsupervised machine learning to visualize and make informed use of the uncertainty landscape throughout the decision-making process. Maddy integrates coupled simulation-optimization techniques and Self-Organizing Maps to support the development of adaptive and robust policies, with a focus on the post-2026 Colorado River Basin policy development. Her work aims to create an interactive framework that allows users to visualize trade-offs, compare policy options, and explore how these outcomes evolve across the uncertainty space. Maddy holds a B.S. from Montana State University, an M.S. from CU Boulder, and is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow.
