The University of Alabama
Dr. Md Shahabul Alam is a Research Scientist at Alabama Water Institute located at The University of Alabama. This research focuses on improving the representation of hydrologic processes in the large-scale hydrologic models for flood and drought predictions. Dr. Alam continues this research at the Alabama Water Institute, contributing to the advancement of the NextGen National Water Model (NWM) to simulate streamflow in watersheds and assess climate change impacts on droughts and water availability across the United States, including Utah's Great Salt Lake. Prior to this, he accumulated over 15 years of experience working on various international water resources projects and published peer-reviewed papers in the high impact journals, such as HESS, Journal of Hydrometeorology, and Journal of Hydrology. Dr. Alam earned his Ph.D. in Civil, Geological, and Environmental Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on the water balance of oil sands mine reclamation covers under a changing climate.
