Sara Kamanmalek is currently a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida State University. She received her doctorate in Civil Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) in 2021, where she defended her dissertation entitled, “An Integrative Approach to Identify and Assess Streams Susceptible to Antibiotic Discharges”. After completing her PhD, she joined the Clark Science Center at Smith College as a postdoctoral research associate, investigating the impact of microplastics on the bioaccumulation of silver nanoparticles in Daphnia magna. Her research is rooted in providing new understanding and solutions to foster sustainable water resource management through modeling, laboratory analysis, and integrated environmental assessment. She is currently working on understanding the driving factors of harmful algae bloom (HAB), detection of HAB, and vulnerability assessment using satellite imagery and remote sensing.
