Research Ecologist

David Smith is an ecologist with the US Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). He is the team lead of the Cognitive Ecology and Ecohydraulics team where he applies models of fish movement in complex environments, conducts behavior, temperature and toxicant stress studies using fish and leads the development of a new and unique aquatic laboratory designed to inform mechanistic models of fish and human movement. This work is applied across the civil and military missions of the USACE in areas such as fish passage, fish barriers (CO2, bubble acoustic fish fence and electrical), dredge entrainment, stream flows, levee repair, stream restoration, and contaminant management at national and international locations. He is also the Editor and Chief of the IAHR Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research.
