Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Ohio Northern University
Dr. Lauren H. Logan is an Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Ohio Northern University. Dr. Logan planned from an early age to follow the academic path and become a professor, as she feels knowledge creation and inspiring students to “do more, be more” are the keys to a successful future for society. While on a National Science Foundation fellowship, Dr. Logan earned her Ph.D. from the Energy-Water-Environment Sustainability program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, under the direction of Dr. Ashlynn S. Stillwell. Dr. Logan's research incorporates biology and policy into the engineering aspects of the energy-water nexus. Recently, Dr. Logan has expanded her research to Life Cycle Assessment, and LCA's impact and use within sustainability education. Dr. Logan has been featured as a guest expert on Spectrum One News, several science podcasts, and in the new Water Matters initiative by True Elements.
Prior to her Ph.D., Dr. Logan earned B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Geological Sciences from Ohio University, and a M.S. degree in Biological Sciences from Purdue University. Active in Tau Beta Pi, Dr. Logan is currently a D7 District Director for the honor society. She also volunteers for Ohio 4-H as a judge and contributor to Engineering Excitement Day at the Ohio State Fair, and was the alumni guest speaker at the 2023 4-H Celebration of Youth event. Dr. Logan is passionate about the recruitment and retention of under-represented groups into engineering programs, serving on several DEIB committees at ONU. She was also recently elected to serve on the governing board of Ohio Project Kaleidoscope (STEM education organization). Dr. Logan is married to Daniel Newkirk (a licensed mechanical engineer), and together they have four pets: Gandalf the cat, Greg the cat, Aragorn the dog, and Arwen the puppy.
