Associate Engineer

Denis Ruttenberg is licensed Civil Engineer working in California on water resources, environmental, fish habitat projects. He is an Associate Engineer at the Santa Clara Valley Water District and a long-term Member of the EWRI Fisheries Engineering and Science Committee (Joint Committee), including roles as Vice Chair, Chair and Task Leader. He completed his Bachelor of Science at UC Davis in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Idaho Center for Ecohydraulics Research. The subject of his thesis was fish passage effectiveness and hydraulics at natural channels constructed with boulder weirs. His career has spanned nearly 35 years to date with a variety of roles in Environmental Consulting and Governmental positions, all with a focus on Water Resources, and especially focused on cutting edge technology for instream restoration and fish passage. He enjoys engaging in projects from concept to construction, employing skills in project management, CADD, 2D modeling, hydrology, and project reporting.
