Paul Mathisen is a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA. His background includes a Ph.D. from MIT, 3 years of consulting experience, and a variety of research experience in the civil and environmental engineering disciplines. Professor Mathisen has been teaching upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in environmental engineering, including fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology, environmental analysis, groundwater flow and pollution, contaminant transport, and water resources management. As a faculty member at WPI, Professor Mathisen has also been completing research in the areas of water quality modeling, contaminant transport, and the characterization of nutrients in ground-water and surface-water in the environment. His research on stormwater includes modeling and field programs to address water quality of urban runoff and the effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BMPs).
